Mental health & Disability certifications and support letters

I write support letters and complete certifying documents for:

  • covid cautious/conscious and pandemic realist workers and students to advocate for accommodations to reduce exposure risks (e.g. remote or hybrid options)

  • neurodivergent, chronically ill, and/or disabled workers and students to advocate for sensory, interpersonal, and executive function accommodations

  • renters needing an ESA letter to stay housed with their support animal

  • workers struggling with their mental health and considering taking FMLA or another form of mental health leave

I am not a qualified provider for completing California state disability paperwork.

For sliding scale gender affirming care letters, see Demi Alex Ayuna or Natalie Chen.

How it works

Summary: We’ll meet for one virtual 60-minute session to discuss your needs and advocacy plan, and then I’ll complete the needed documents with your feedback and revisions if needed. I will deliver complete and thorough documents according to the clinical information provided and best practices for maintaining confidentiality, though ultimately I cannot guarantee your requests will be accepted by your institution.

Please note that ESA letters specifically require the provider–patient relationship to have been established for at least 30 days. If possible, reach out to start the process at least 30 days before the anticipated due date.

Payment: Those capable of paying my full session rate ($210) are encouraged to. Otherwise I offer the following pay-what-you-can sliding scale:

  • BIPOC and queer/trans or poor/low income: $20+ (suggested: $50)

  • White or class privileged: $80+ (suggested: $150+)

When deciding what you can pay, please honestly consider your access to financial and material resources. You will not be asked to provide proof for the rate you choose. I accept Zelle and HSA, FSA, and credit cards.

One-time payment includes one session and completed documents. Additional sessions for extended time, debriefs, follow-ups, new and updated documents, etc. can be scheduled and paid for separately as needed.

Contact

Letter writing and certification services are short-term (typically 1–3 sessions) and goal-directed.

Sessions will not extend into ongoing counseling or individual therapy without additional informed consent. If you are interested in ongoing individual therapy, please check my availability here.

Previous clients can email me directly to check my availability for providing updated certifications or letters.

Why does access to accommodations matter?

Accommodations are necessary adjustments made to structures, policies, and norms to improve accessibility, participation, and safety for marginalized people. By advocating for accommodations, we assert our right to ask for what we need to exist in these spaces.

The accommodations process often requires written attestation from a certified provider of your health conditions and functional limitations. These can become violent bureaucratic barriers to receiving needed care and adjustments. It is ableist to gatekeep accommodations because of the false belief that they are special privileges that unfairly disadvantage “truly hardworking” non-disabled people. It can be traumatizing process for people to prove their needs are worthy of being met while knowingly risking discrimination and rejection at their school, job, and housing.

Until our society centers accessibility as a collective responsibility, I intend to partner with workers, students, and renters in their self-advocacy to access life-affirming accommodations to better survive inaccessible and harmful systems.
